Chief Human Resources Development

Mr. Mark Assaf is the Chief of the Human Resources Development Section– TRAINFORTRADE at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva, Switzerland. He holds a Master’s in Economics from the Free University of Brussels (Belgium).

Mr. Assaf has over 20 years of experience in International Institutions and private sector multinationals. He oversees major programs in the field of International Trade Statistics, E-Commerce, and Port Management to support sustainable economic development.

Mr. Assaf believes in building sustainable networks of knowledge to enhance national ownership and international cooperation as per SDG 17. He is a strong promoter of digital solutions and innovative thinking to enhance the capacities of international trade players. He dedicates his efforts to support development-oriented trade policy to reduce poverty and to promote transparency and good practices within UN member states.

    World Ports Sustainability Program - The Next Phase

    In its fifth year, the IAPH World Ports Sustainability Program is now the industry reference database of ports integrating the UN Sustainable Development Goals into their own businesses. These projects have inspired the highly successful Port Endeavor game which brings those projects to life in a live, interactive way for participants and the IAPH Sustainability Awards are now established as the global standard for port project excellence. What are the next plans for the Program and what role can IAPH member ports and associate members serving them play in that future?
